A further flood of thoughts

In the last issue of the Newsletter, no 35, the article “The flood of thoughts” by Christine Pieler told us of two autistic German twins, Konstantin and Kornelius who were able to express how they perceive, feel and think, and to write it down provided someone sat next to them in an detached way and touched a part of their body. They said that it gave order to the flood of thoughts in them which otherwise would be too fast. The touch slowed down their thinking so they could act with order.

A report about them in a German newspaper mentioned that “the real drama of an autistic person is that they cannot express their intelligence. That is they cannot manipulate their actions by will. However for many autistic people the technique of “supported communication” (invented by the Australian Rosemary Crossley) offers them a possiblity to express themselves. In this technique a helper touches the index finger, the hand or the arm of the autistic person in order to stabilise the motoric function. This way the autistic person can point at letters, pictures or symbols or even hold a pen or write on a computer. It is important that all the impulses come from the autistic people and not from the helper”.

The article described how Silvia Keulen, the mother of the twins got a piece of paper, put her hand on top of one of the twins’ hand, and the little hand started moving by itself.  The two seven year olds began then to write and calculate, able to answer questions such as: who is the mayor of Berlin, what is the capital of Italy.

Kornelius says he clearly remembers the first writing. He knew he could write. He was happy that his mother was so excited and overjoyed. In Konstantin’s words: “I know exactly why I can do only little. I am thinking too fast. The thinking blocks the action. I am supposed to separate the acting into steps that stop the thinking so that I can act orderly”.

The more they can show of what they know the calmer they get. Konstantin says the support of a helper is necessary to give order to the flood of thoughts that is in him. However the helper needs to be absolutely empty and detached. When they started school they got a helper who realised that the children could read her thoughts and write down what she thought. They answered questions the teacher hadn’t even asked yet. But the two boys refused to work with her because of her hopes that they would start writing and expressing themselves of their own accord. The opposite happened: they refused working with her and only wanted to work when their mother was there.

Mother started sitting with them in school and when they did their homework. Everything was always already completely ready in their minds. No corrections were necessary.  Mother doesn’t need to touch them anymore. But she has to sit there next to them.

Sometimes the twins talk about morphic fields, that sourround them. They perceive information and emotional bonds in a totally different way than we do. Kornelius explains: “I am reading books in a way that it appears in front of me as light. I love new books. With them I focuss my knowledge. I connect what I have read with very fine files and discover a new fine thinking in me.” Konstantin says: “I perceive an all encompassing world of thoughts. I see the energy of things. To see means I am not seeing a chair, but an energy. The chair is like a flickering, coloured mass, that is sucking. It is amazing that I have learned to see things the way you do.  I have learned it from your directives, when you have told me to do something. First this has been difficult but then my view materialised. Now I am seeing both images. I constantly select. My capacity to select is enormous. It is very exhausting if you have to think as much as I do in order to get around.”

“We are outsiders. The role of the outsider is determined by special cirumstances and a special view on things. This is the case with us. This position allows us an approach to knowing that is a-symptomical (without flaws?), that is the highest possible approach to pure thought without completely reaching it. This is why we can’t and won’t give up this position. It makes us very vulnerable but for us the advantages absolutely override the disavantages.”

Touching in a detached way, doesn’t this approach evoke certain Metamorphic  principles? When a person receives a Metamorphic session, whether that person is predominantly afferent or efferent, couldn’t it be that the same process as described above occur spontaneously, creating order to the flood of thoughts and bringing that order to action?

To recall a passage from the article “The Metamorphic Technique and the Feminine” published in the last issue of the Newsletter: “As soon as we are born, senses like petals of flowers being warmed up by the sun, start opening up.  Three things are happening in the domain of perception: there is an external source, an activation coming from outside, which solicitates our senses and there is the process taking place in the brain: external source then, organ and internal processing of that source.  As babies, we have a tremendous amount of receptors through which we receive information from all sorts of sources.  After a while, some sources come to be considered as more important than others like the mother’s voice, and the father’s holding.  The receptors that are not used close down.  However, we have the ability to open new receptors, which bypass the senses, going directly from the sources from which the activation emanates to the receptors in the brain so that we can respond to what we pick up directly without necessarily the five senses being used”.

It feels to me that Konstantin and Kornelius are shedding a light onto the new inroads that allow our creativity to flourish; their own creativity is expressed in their poetry, writing and study at University. For them, it seems that specific receptors remained open, different from the ones that we use; for us it seems that through detachment and letting be, new receptors are opening up through which information from our own essence is downloaded. Can’t we consider the Metamorphic Technique as being an open invitation to our own life force and innate intelligence to open all our receptors?
